Rock Climbing

Take advantage of the crisp fall weather and the beautiful mountains around you, and go for a climb!  Rock climbing is a wonderful way to experience the beauty of nature, with its breathtaking views and gorgeous valleys and canyons.  Also, besides the cost of gear, it is completely free!  This fall, go out there and discover your backyard through a whole new perspective!

It is never too late to start climbing.  Just last month, I was introduced to the sport of rock climbing and I have already fallen in love with it.  My arms are sore and my hands ache, yet all I want to do is climb.  It is a great way to stay active and get an intense workout, as well as just have fun with friends!  I love the technical aspect of it too.  If you love strategy then you will love rock climbing, because it’s always a puzzle to find out the best route to the top.

Right now, I am going to school in Provo, Utah, so I am lucky that some of the best rock climbing opportunities in the country, such as in American Fork Canyon, Moab, and Zions, are right in my backyard.  However, there is rock climbing available almost anywhere!  I know that when I go back home to California I am checking out routes in Yosemite.

Even when winter hits, you can stay involved in the rock climbing community and go to your local rock gym to work on technique and get better for the next outdoor climbing season.  However, if you insist on being outdoors even in the cold, then ice climbing is a whole different sport altogether…  I have personally never tried it, but I bet it is just as amazing.

Hiking in the Fall

By SportsLover, October 3, 2011 12:38 pm

As the leaves start to change colors and get crispy, hiking can be the perfect activity to fill your time. There are many areas around the world in which fall is the perfect time to get outdoors and experience nature.

When you know that you are going to go hiking you should be sure that you are safe. Take time to exercise your judgement so that you can be sure you do not end up injured while you are on your hike.

First, you should be sure that you tell someone where you are going and an estimated time that you will arrive home. Make sure that you give them a date and time that you know you will be home by, this way if you are not home by this time they know that they can start to worry and take action to find out.

Second, you want to be sure that you understand how you are going to pack enough food and water for your hike. Take the time that you need to pack it appropriately so you can be sure that you can carry it while you are out on your hike.

Third, make sure that you are protected from the elements. Have a poncho with you in case it starts to rain and dress in layers so you can avoid any problems you may have with temperature.

Football season is back, everyone! There is no time like fall to enjoy the excitement and thrill of the game. There is a lot of opportunity to both play and participate in football events this fall.

Obviously, there will be games playing on the TV at a constant rate for the next while. That being said, the weather is going to be crisp and perfect for gathering friends and having some football fun of your own. From simple pickup games to competitive leagues, there is always the chance to have fun playing football outside.

Indeed, that is one of the best joys of the season! There is something uniquely special about getting friends and family together to have a great time and engage in some friendly competition. Building memories and having fun with this unique sport is one of the best ways to enjoy fall, and usher out the summer with something new and fun!
