Larry Johnson Bengal Bound?

Larry Johnson, a thirty year old football player with a troubled career past, has just been offered to join the Cincinnati Bengals.  The coach of the Bengals, Marvin Lewis, is known for giving troubled players second chances and says he wants to look towards Johnson’s future and not his past.  Johnson has been in trouble for his conduct a number of times now.  He was benched for three games in 2008 for violating team rules by former coach Herm Edwards. Not long after he was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty for disturbing the peace at a Kansas City night spot.  Then three weeks ago he was suspended for two weeks after posting a gay slur on Twitter and ridiculing the competence of coach Todd Haley.

Lewis says he approached Johnson about this proposition before Cedric Benson’s injury to the hip on Sunday but regardless Johnson will be playing merely as an insurance policy player for the Bengals as a fourth string running back. Hopefully things work out for the Bengals and Johnson is able to turn his game around.  Though with Johnson’s tendency for suspension I wonder how well he will take to being an insurance policy player.
