Eagles soar into Playoffs

By , December 20, 2010 6:46 pm

The score was 24 to 3 in favor of the Giants with only eight minutes left in the game. It seemed like the game was pretty much in the bag and the Giants would get home field advantage in the playoffs.

But then something incredible happened: Michael Vick reminded everyone that he is indeed MVP material. He led the Eagles to score four unanswered touchdowns in the 4th quarter bringing the score to 31-24 in favor of the Eagles.

When the Giants got the ball they drove down the field for another touchdown and extra point and their task to end the game was simple. All that they needed to do was punt the ball out of bounds and the defense could hold the Eagles back for one play.

That was the plan, but the snap was high and the Giants rookie punter, Matt Dodge, sent it into the backfield to DeSean Jackson. What a huge mistake that was.

As the clock ran out Jackson returned the ball 65 yards for the game winning touchdown. Eagles win 38-31.

That’s the great thing about sports: it isn’t over until it’s over. Now the Giants have to fight for a wild card spot in the playoffs, and Dodge…well he’s probably fired.

Max Hall Apology

The “holy war” between Brigham Young University and University of Utah saw an impressive battle Saturday.  BYU fans in Lavell Edwards Stadium cheered the cougars to a 14 point lead over the Utes– a lead they gave away in the fourth quarter. With a touchdown conquering the Ute’s field goal in overtime, BYU claimed the unofficial title for 2009:  26: 23.

Following the game, a triumphant Max Hall, quarterback for BYU, stated that he “hate[d]. . . everything about [the University of] Utah.” Saying that Ute fans are “classless,” Hall referenced an incident from last year’s rivalry game when Utah fans verbally assaulted, spit on, and dumped beer on his family.

According to Hall, the fans in question were escorted to their vehicle by the local police. Ending an embarrassing game for Hall and an unpleasant experience for his family, this experience embittered Hall.

Hall has since apologized to the university, fans, and team from Utah and to his own  team and coaching staff. In an interview this morning, BYU head coach, Bronco Mendenhall, says he ‘absolutely’ respects Hall for the way he handled the situation, calling him a ‘great leader’ and a ‘great kid’ who ‘has [Mendenhall's] support.’

According to  Mendenhall, “The apology [Max] issued (came) from him and no one else. . . . If anyone thinks they’ve influenced his apology, that’s a mistake; he woke up, did all of that on his own. . . . I haven’t talked to Max yet, nor has anyone else from our coaching staff. Max has done this completely on his own.”

Jimmy Clausen Punched

By , November 24, 2009 9:47 am

Notre Dame quarterback, Jimmy Clausen, was punched in the face by an upset fan outside a restaurant in South Bend early Sunday morning. He now has a swollen eye, a person briefed on the incident reported on Monday.

That person said Clausen was “sucker-punched” by a fan as he left an establishment after having dinner with his parents.

The fan allegedly said something to Clausen and/or a female acquaintance.

A South Bend police spokesman said that no police reports were filed over the weekend involving Clausen, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The newspaper also reported that the name of the bar was CJ’s and that a bartender at the establishment said that Clausen had been there with family members and other Irish upperclassmen after Notre Dame’s loss to Connecticut on Senior Day.
