It’s Almost Golfing Time!

By SportsLover, March 10, 2011 4:57 pm

Now that spring is almost here, it’s time to get excited about golf again! The courses are starting to open, and it’s time to get back on the green and do work.

I’ll be honest. I am terrible at the sport. I flail around when teeing off like a caffienated squirrel, and my idea of putting is to slide the ball into the hole, hockey style. There’s also a slight chance that I will use the same club for every hit if allowed. Golf isn’t my game.

That being said, I can still appreciate the game of golf. There’s something relaxing about playing a leisurely, tactical sport outside. Golf courses are usually beautiful, and there’s just a feeling of laid back fun. You know. Until someone misses and hurls their club into a lake. Then there is swearing.

It’s fun to try. That’s what I like about the sport of golf. Every time I go, I learn a few more things that help improve my form, and allow me to enjoy the experience more. Plus, the atmosphere is usually awesome and relaxed. Who knows? Maybe if I keep it up, I’ll be competent someday.

Cheering for Tiger

By SportsLover, October 1, 2010 4:08 pm

Everyone knows Tiger Woods has made his fair share of mistakes, but there is no doubt that a small portion of people are still rooting for the guy. He’s an underdog now; a fallen hero – he just needs to rise again like the pro we all know he is.

Sure he did some stupid stuff off the golf course, but that shouldn’t take away what he has done for the game. As a teenager he broke the sport out of the country-club mold that only rich white guys played.

He made the game accessible to everyone – no matter their age, race, or income. He brought an excitement to the course that had never before existed.

He showed emotion like no one ever had, and he brought in fans. The crowd felt the anguish of a missed putt and was just as excited as Tiger when he sunk crazy chip shots.

He was inspiring. He still is inspiring.

He went through a rough patch where the entire world hated him, and that was simply unfair. What he did should in no way distract from the great things he has done.

People seem to forget that this man has single-handedly put millions of his own dollars into countless charities. He has helped thousands of kids fall in love with the sport that no one ever paid attention to.

And the players, they get million-dollar paychecks when they win becuase Tiger made that possible. He brought the excitement, which brought fans and in walked the sponsors who make the prize money possible.

All that becuase of some college kid with a gift. He made a mistake and everyone in the crowd – his so called fans – started throwing rocks. He still did those things, and what he does in his personal life is none of anyone’s business.

The focus should be golf and the great things Tiger has done for it and in it and how he has used his celebrity to help people all over the country. The public ridicule has no doubt affected Tiger’s game; everyone does better when they know people believe in them.

So Tiger, you have fans who believe in you, and want to see you succeed and win…and show all those nay-sayers who’s the best.

Tiger Woods Accident

The greatest golfer to ever play the game. The athlete with the squeaky clean reputation. The all-american icon for the sport of golf. The family man with a gorgeous wife and two little kids.

Could all these things be forgotten so quickly? Well, it depends.

Last week, Tiger Woods was involved in a car accident in his neighborhood that involved him, a fire hydrant, and a neighbor’s tree. Oh yeah, his wife and a golf club were also present. Woods was taken to the hospital due to lacerations to his face. Why his wife, Elin, was present, still remains unclear. Different news and media outlets are reporting that either she was helping him exit through the back of his Cadillac Escalade by shattering the window, or she was upset and chasing him down because of a presumed affair that Tiger has been having with Rachel Uchitel.

Here is a statement that was released by Tiger Woods yesterday:
